Writing

I write to find out what I think.

Some of it is about healing and the body. Some of it is about leadership, which is harder and lonelier than most people say out loud. The two turn out to be the same subject.

Truth and Healing

Truth, because leading honestly means saying the parts that are not flattering. It is hard. It can be lonely. It is also beautiful, and almost nobody writes that part down.

Healing, because we are all in need of it, some days more than others, and a leader who does not practice it is asking other people to do something she will not do herself.

I started this after my first endometriosis surgery, while struggling to lead through it. Four years later it is still the place I go to work things out in public.

The book

A Patient's Guide to Endometriosis

In progress, co-written with my surgeon. A guide for people living with endometriosis and the conditions that travel with it: the medical facts, the emotional weight, and what it takes to calm a nervous system that has been on alert for years.

I went undiagnosed for a long time. I know what it costs to be articulate and calm inside a system that reads those as evidence you are fine.
